University of Southern Mississippi SERRI Success Story Stadium Evacuation Model
- USM is addressing the need to improve security at sports arenas and sporting events.
- USM is developing a computer simulation model (Sports E Vac) to enhance training, response and recovery capabilities for partial or mass evacuations of large scale collegiate sport venues.
- USM is using Sports E Vac as an integral component of 80 workshops that represent the training nucleus of the DHS project “National Risk Management Certification for Sports Events.”
- USM will train more than 5000 key security personnel from 1000 universities during the 80 workshops. Key security personnel include campus police, emergency management, emergency medical, fire, and athletic facility manager.
- Interested potential end-users include: NCAA, NFL, NBA, NASCAR, US Opens Tennis, Indy Car, Major League Baseball, and Major League Soccer.
